Christmas Runner HQAL

Well it’s happy dance time, it’s only taken five years but I have finally finished my Christmas runner…better later than never!

I missed the last post unfortunately so six weeks ago I was still quilting across the runner…

Having quilted either side of each square I then quilted longways too. I’ve used a DMC thread and a fairly large stitch length so it didn’t take too long. It’s not perfect quilting, not helped by being stored since 2020 so there are a few puckers, but it’s finished and that’s what matters!

I trimmed the edges and then rummaged through my Christmas fabrics and found I still had several of the fabrics I used for the quilt. I had enough of the red one to make four lengths of binding which was comfortably enough to bind the quilt.

I initially machine stitched the binding on but then hand-stitched it down which I think does give a much nicer finish.

This was originally a free SAL in 2025 by I think Hugs ‘n’ Kisses in Australia so it’s been a UFO for quite a while! It’s nice to get it finally finished. I shall enjoy getting it out at Christmas.

I haven’t any more hand quilting projects at the moment, so I won’t be posting under the HQAL banner for a while, so please follow the quilters so you can follow their progress with their projects.

Hand Quilt Along Links

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

About craftycreeky

I live in a busy market town in Yorkshire with my husband, kids, dogs and chickens. I love trying new crafts, rediscovering old ones, gardening, walking...anything creative really I started this blog after my New Year resolution worked so well. My resolution (the first one I've ever kept!) was to post a photograph of my garden on Facebook every day. My hope was that I would then see what was good in the garden and not just weeds and work, which was my tendency. The unexpected side-effect was that I have enjoyed many more hours in the garden. I am hoping that 'The Crafty Creek' will have the same effect. Happy creating!
