Well, I’ve very pleased with myself, I’ve completed the September Block of the Month within the correct month!! I’m doing the Pat Sloan BOM called Vacation Time, each month she releases a new quilt block and by the end of it we will have a new quilt and will have hopefully mastered some new techniques!
This is the last of the main blocks, next month it’s all the joining up bits! Over on her facebook page there have been several comments on how it’s a nice easy block (especially after Augusts border!!) so I was quite chilled about starting it…maybe this is why the stitch ripper became my best friend! Three times I had to redo a seam!
Of course I could just be getting more fussy and critical of my patchwork, the problem was getting my points to match, I managed to make them ok, though some are still not perfect. It took a while to decide on my fabric choice, I wanted to include the leaf design as so far that is in every block, so it sort of pulls it all together, I hope! The main problem was the background, as the lighter plain fabrics have been used to the extent I didn’t have enough for this one. so it’s the ditsy flowers again. I’m happy with the result though.
I laid the blocks out according to the design, I may decide to swap two of the blocks round to even out the colours, otherwise there is too much ginger in one corner! I’m looking forward to October 1st when the final instalment is published!
Love your colors! I can’t wait to see the finished quilt.

Thanks Kaelyn, I wasn’t sure about the colours at first, I was using fabric purely from my stash and I’m not really a brown person, but it’s grown on me! I’m looking forward to next month when it will all come together…hopefully!

I have just been reading the story of your quilt with interest. You are very brave to stitch a mystery quilt. I have only made a lap quilt, and coincidentally it has brown and colours that go with brown. After making the lap quilt I started making a full sized quilt and coincidentally the pattern was by Pat Sloan. I wanted to make the quilt from my stash. Unfortunately I keep finding other things that need doing but I will get back to it one day!
Can’t wait to see your quilt finished. You are choosing such nice fabrics.

I’m pretty new to quilting so I decided to use the BOM to learn new techniques, I deliberately only used fabrics from my stash (and probably ones I wasn’t that bothered about, hence lots of browns when I’m not really a brown person!!) although I’m really pleased with it, it will probably end up as a Christmas present for a special couple 🙂
