Two good friends were married on Friday, I thought long and hard about wedding presents as they are both about our age, settled in their home, and originally said they didn’t want any presents…well that wasn’t going to happen!
I decided to stitch a wedding sampler for them and having checked my cross-stitch patterns, I found one that fitted the bill perfectly. I have a lovely book called The New Cross-Stitch Sampler Book by Helen Philipps. There are about three variations on this design, I stitched one for a friends silver wedding last year. The design I chose this time is called the Valentine Sampler but with a few adaptations it was perfect.
Nick and Kathy took the term ‘long distance relationship’ to the extreme with the Atlantic Ocean coming between them, Kathy has now moved from America to the best place in the world, Yorkshire, to be with Nick…ok so I’m slightly biased!! As soon as I read the verse on the Valentine Sampler, it had to be that one!
I added their initials and the date of their wedding instead of roses and ‘Love’. It was fairly quick to stitch and the beads and lace on it add a variety of texture to the sampler. The heart charm came from Beads Direct
I took it down to the Art Works in Otley to be framed as they always do a good job, I chose a light coloured frame and a double mount. I’m really pleased with it and hope they like it too.
Oh it is beautiful ; I am sure they’ll adore it!

Lovely! What a great story of how you chose this sampler – I’m sure they’ll treasure it. I have never tried adding lace like that, but I love the texture. How did you attach it? It looks like maybe you stitched it on with some beads as well?

Thank you, the lace is stitched on with a row of gold beads together with some pink ones in the middle of the flowers on the lace.

It looks beautiful! I love the beads, lace and charm. It makes it look really professional. I will have to remember this one for if I ever need a wedding sampler as it looks fairly quick to stitch up unlike some.
