Two More Christmas Smalls!

I’m on a bit of a roll with these now! I’ve been stitching these two little projects over the last couple of weeks but I couldn’t show you until my daughter had returned from her travels so I could give her one.

I spotted the dachshund on Pinterest first and managed to trace it back to Etsy to a shop called Little Beach Hut, Sarah designs and sells both  patterns and kits for lots of cute little cross-stitch projects.

My daughter Helen has got a thing about dachshunds at the moment so I decided to stitch one as a tree decoration for an early present. Whilst I was ordering it I spotted a pug, as my son James has a pug called Eddie I just had to get that one too!

They were both very quick and straight forward to stitch taking probably a couple of evenings each. I just had to make them into something! I looked at the making up ideas on Twisted Stitcher and decided to do a mini pillow with the pug and a flat ornament with the dachshund.

In my stash I had some mini pompom trim which happened to go well with both, together with two coordinating fabrics for the back. I stitched James’s first, the pompom trim proved very fiddly on the machine as it was so small, trying to get the seam close enough to the edge of the trim. I managed it eventually and was pleasantly surprised how easily the stiff aida fabric turned through the little whole I left in the seam. I stitched on a red ribbon loop and the first one was finished.

Oops!

I laced the dachshund onto some card and chose some santa fabric for the backing, it was a bit heavier than quilting cotton so it was a bit of a struggle to glue it down but a heavy book did the trick. As both side were a bit on the thick side there was a bit of a gap between the two layers, I glued them together first (with a heavy book again!). I decided to stitch the mini pompom trim on so the braid bit covered the gap and the pompoms were nicely lying to the front, stitching a hand-made hanging cord in at the same. This also had the advantage of enabling me to hand stitch the two sides together at the same time…

Unfortunately I didn’t check which way up Santa was, so Santa thinks he’s in Australia 🙂

I think these two look very cute, hopefully they will come out every year for Christmas. Hopefully I’ve still got time to make myself a little something before Christmas, one of Faby Reilly’s humbugs is calling me!!A Christmas dachshund and a cute pug in cross-stitch

I’m linking up with Kathy’s Quilts tomorrow for Slow-Stitching Sunday, why not follow the link and see what everyone else has been stitching.

About craftycreeky

I live in a busy market town in Yorkshire with my husband, kids, dogs and chickens. I love trying new crafts, rediscovering old ones, gardening, walking...anything creative really I started this blog after my New Year resolution worked so well. My resolution (the first one I've ever kept!) was to post a photograph of my garden on Facebook every day. My hope was that I would then see what was good in the garden and not just weeds and work, which was my tendency. The unexpected side-effect was that I have enjoyed many more hours in the garden. I am hoping that 'The Crafty Creek' will have the same effect. Happy creating!

My daughter wouild love the pug. I never got round to the head portrait of one with a santa hat on as it didn’t turn up until too late, but it’s on the list for next year.
