On Wednesday I had a fantastic day discovering the fabric shops of Dewsbury and making lots of friends along the way! I’d heard about the fabric shops in Dewsbury a few times, but it’s the other side of Leeds and two trains away…but when Ali from Thimberlina organised a meeting of the Yorkshire Spoolettes there, a bloggers get-together, it was too good an opportunity to miss!
Fifteen of us met in a café, we were all keen sewers and were soon chatting away like old friends. The eagle-eyed amongst you may spot two familiar faces from Great British Sewing Bee, it was interesting to chat to them about the experience! The photo below is the end of the day with all the shopping bags!
Ali was our tour guide for the day, it’s her local stomping ground, the first shop we descended on was Lucky Fashions, full of fabric bargains! I restrained myself to two fabric lengths including a gorgeous pink Linton Tweed type which I just beat Neela to, unfortunately there was only a meter left so we couldn’t even share it! It cost me all of £4!! The staff were lovely and so helpful, they even brought us refreshments!
Next stop was the market, which is there on Wednesdays and Saturdays, there were some great trimmings and haberdashery stalls, I bought some pretty black lace with the idea of putting it round the hem of a top, there were some stunning braids on the Asian stalls if only I could think what to do with them!
Our final shop was Fabworks, a huge fabric shop just down from the station. Ooh…I could have bought loads there, there was so much tempting fabric at such good prices! I restrained myself, though I did treat myself to two lengths of Liberty tana lawn amongst others…I’ve only added 16m to my stash…
After all that shopping we need refreshment so we recovered in Wetherspoons . It was great to chat with fellow sewers and crafters, swopping ideas and thoughts.
Dewsbury is definitely on my fabric shop map now, looking forward to the next Yorkshire Spoolette outing 🙂

What great fun I wish I had something similar here! Glad you had a great time and shared!
