It’s three weeks since I shared my Down the Rabbit Hole quilt with you. This quilt is by the same designer as my Coming Home quilt, Sarah Fielke. I finished the top about 18 months ago and then had the crazy idea of hand quilting it, I say crazy as it’s about 96″ square and I’d not done any hand-quilting for donkey’s years!
Three weeks ago I’d just started the last two borders, which sounds so encouraging, but one of them is a pretty deep border so I’ve still a long way to go before I can get my dancing shoes out!
Excuses first! I’ve been concentrating on getting the garden and house ready for the open garden and quilt and needlework show this weekend, we’ve also had a bit of a heat wave, the powers that be are still trying to decide if Thursday was the hottest day ever or not! Thirty odd degrees may not seem hot to many of you, but our houses etc are not designed for hot weather!! We’ve had a very sticky few days and it was certainly too hot to sit under a quilt hand sewing!!
Having said all that I did manage to get a little done before the weather got too warm, last time I was struggling with marking, I had a go with masking tape, which I didn’t find overly successful, but I ordered a ceramic pencil at Kate’s suggestion so I’m going to try that out next week.

Good grief, in the temperatures you’re having at the moment, even 5 minutes under a quilt is nothing short of heroic!

We have been in a heat wave as well but we have air conditioning. I hope it cools off to more comfortable temperatures for you soon. Beautiful quilting!

And I think South Texas is hot and humid! I do hope that your weather calms down back to normal. You are doing a great job on the quilting in the heat! Hang in there, winter is coming …. someday!

There are plenty of new stitches there, Margaret, and you have had bigger fish to fry these past 3 weeks! How big is your cross hatching? I am considering that for SoB, and thinking about size.

Thanks Kathy, my cross-hatching is pretty big, about 4″ as I’m following the on point squares in the outer border.

quilting and heat wave are not the best of friends ~ I was intrigued with the Open Garden and Quilt and Needlework Show. That sounds so fun! ~ I would love to come by and see your amazing gardens and work. Please post pictures 🙂

30C is a typical summer temp here but we have Air Conditioning. I hope you find something cooler to do than hand quilting. I can’t imagine doing that in the heat. Your project is so cute. It will be great when finished.

Excuses.. I think they were good reasons.. you should hear my excuse.. I cut my finger!😁it’s been really warm here seeing 35* and above but like you said we are more prepared for weather like that.keep cool!

it is hard to quilt in a lap frame when your quilt is so large and the temperature so high. I have used masking tape, and like the blue painter’s tape best. You are making progress, that’s the important thing. This is where I would want my big frame out of storage, though, so I could have the fan blowing air under the quilt. LOL
