Slowly but surely I’m am making progress on hand quilting my Down the Rabbit Hole quilt. As I keep telling other, progress is progress! It’s three weeks since I last showed you my quilt, I had just started the rope border and was hoping to romp round it…
It’s fairly quick to stitch when I get going as it’s all in the same direction, I just have two threads going at any one time. I’ve got a lap stand ring now too and I am finding it much easier, it holds the quilt in a better position for me and keeps the area behind clear for me to work in. I just hadn’t quite appreciated that each of these rope borders is 64″ long! That’s a lot of border!
Hence I’m still on the rope border, making progress but not as quickly as I would like, I’m just over half way round. Once I’ve finished this border I think I’ll have a good session taking out the basting threads so the lines start to fade as I move onto the rabbits. Stitching this border has giving me plenty of time to ponder over how to quilt the next one, the rabbits and vines, I’ve got some ideas mulling about!

While the border is long, isn’t it refreshing to know what you are going to do when you sit down? I always do better once the decision is made and I just have to execute it! I’m looking forward to seeing what develops when you get to the rabbits too! This is such a beauty and so worth the effort!

Confession time!! I sent it to a long armed forces basting as it’s 96″ square and I just haven’t got the space to baste it myself

I think halfway around in three weeks isn’t bad at all! It’s looking wonderful, and seeing it makes me think about putting something, even if it’s small, in the hand quilting frame.

There’s something very satisfying about working in a straight-ish line, so it’ll feel really good when it’s done, even if it has taken a little longer than anticipated. I’m always interested in the decisions people make about how to quilt something, and although I’m a huge fan of an all-over pattern for a quilt with an intricate design such as this, I think your quilted embellishment is going to add a lot to the texture and dimension.

I’ve decided I like straight line quilting! I think I would have struggled with an all over design, this way I can try and avoid the thick bits !
