Ida, over on My Sister Made Me Do It is holding her first Linky party, a pincushion parade, which I think is a great theme, it made me start looking at the ones I use and the ones I’ve made in the past…
My favourite in use at the moment has to be my Scottie Dog, he was officially made for Otley Show as a childs soft toy, but as soon as he came back from the show he was a pincushion. He’s great as he’s too big to lose under patterns and fabric, I just keep my long daisy pins in Scottie and he’s fat enough for them not to come out of the other side to stab me!
I keep my needles in my glass ladybird pincushion, I kept losing them and I decided that if I have a specific pincushion for them, it may be better. It worked! This one is made from a Kilner jar so I can keep spare packets of needles inside.
Earlier this year I embroidered a Bee pincushion, it’s a design by Nathalie Cichon of Jardin Privee. It was the first design of hers I’d stitched, I’ve just started my third cross-stitch from Jardin Privee! I love this one, it was another one entered at Otley Show! I think it’s really beautiful, so I don’t think it will actually get any pins stuck in it!
Another cross-stitch one I made a few years ago has a wreath of red roses round a charm, it’s beaded too and has a wired ribbon and a rose by the hanger. I made one for my mum too and she still has it hung on her clock.
Another one I made was for a pincushion swap, I did crazy patchwork for this one, my first attempt!”
My all time favourite pincushion that is definitely for show only is one I made years ago. The design was in Inspirations, the Australian embroidery magazine. It’s a little round cottage with flowers embroidered round it. It is lined so a thimble can be kept inside, I embroidered my initial on the base. It’s only tiny, about 2″ tall maximum.
Your pin cushions are adorable! I can see why you wouldn’t stick any pins in the cross stitched one.

Thanks Susan, I think it’s the one I’m most proud of, but it’s rather impractical as a pincushion!

I love your pin cushions!! I’m tempted to try and recreate your Scottie Dog one but I think he would be too adorable to put pins in!!

Thanks Amy June, I felt a bit mean sticking pins in him to start with but I soon got over that one!!! He’s a great size for a pin-cushion 🙂

The Scottie dog is a cutie but my favorite has to be the tiny cottage. I agree, some pincushions are just too pretty to stick pins into!

Thank you Sue, I think my cottage has only ever had pins in for photographs or shows 🙂

Thanks Ali, have to confess I only thought of that when I was about to take the photos, it did just have beads and stuff in, but keeping my hand needle packets in works great, keeps them separate to my machine needles 🙂
