Today, over on Kathy’s Quilts, it’s Slow Stitching Sunday, a weekly celebration of hand-sewing, I’ve spent quite a few evenings ‘slow-stitching’ this week as I started a cross-stitch pin-cushion, it’s a pattern from Jardin Prive, I discovered Natalie’s beautiful designs through Hilda’s blog as she had photos of a stunning sampler (I ordered that pattern too!)
The design is really pretty, it has bees and flowers on the top, aren’t those bees just gorgeous! Around the sides it has an alphabet design with flowers and bee-hives, on the base is a simple cross-stitch pattern. It reminds me of crisp embroidered linen pincushions I saw years and years ago…I was probably about 10 years old, there used to be a wonderful embroidery shop in Leeds called Chalks, tucked away on a back street, it was the sort of shop where they pulled a thread out of the linen to get the cutting line! These pincushions were in glass fronted cabinets, I thought they were beautiful!
I’m stitching the top at the moment, it’s growing really quickly, apart from the evening when I stitched three large flowers in the wrong colour! It was my own fault, I saw the + symbol, in my head I called it a cross…and used the thread for a x symbol! What a numpty! It took another evening to undo it all! I’m hoping it continues to grow quickly as I want to enter it in a local show in May!
This is a beautiful pin cushion. I was drawn to the bee photo as soon as I saw it because I have a cross stitch pattern by Johanna Masko that is alphabets and insects. This makes me want to make it up right now.

Love the bees! I would be afraid to put pins in this pincushion for fear of ruining the stitching!

Hi Gail,I’m not saying I’m going to use it as a pin cushion, I think it could be mainly decorative 🙂

Thank you Lisa, it was the bees that first attracted me, we used to keep bees when I was a child.
