Over on the SewCanShe Sewcialites facebook page there is a pincushion swop going on. It’s the first time I’ve taken part in an on-line swop but it has been great fun. It’s a very simple idea, everyone who enrols is given someone else’s name and address, they make a pincushion and send it anonymously. they then await the arrival of their pincushion!
Everyone has been posting photos of the pincushion’s they’ve made, there are some stunning ones, quilted ones, embroidered ones, allsorts of designs. I was very tempted to make a cathedral window one but I was then inspired by a scrap quilt pincushion.
I used some pretty ladybird fabric as a starting point which was left over from a dress I made for my daughter when she was about 5. I found some coordinating fabrics and then started sewing them together in a random sort of way. I’ve not done scrap quilting before and I do wonder if there is an easier way to get a good effect! I decided to embroider along the fabric lines in red, blue and green, I just used blanket, chain and feather stitch.
I backed the pincushion with a patterned red fabric and then stuffed it as firm as I could with toy stuffing!
I hope she likes it, looking forward to receiving mine 🙂
