Gabriola skirt completed

I have finally got a photo of my first Gabriola skirt, I love it, I’ve worn it about three times now, its is so comfortable and easy to wear and very flattering too! It drapes beautifully. I’ve already got fabric lined up for another two skirts.

I still haven’t quite worked out the sizing for the pattern, I made a size 10 which should have fitted me nicely from the measurements given, however I ended up taking about 5cm in on the back seam, so next time I’m going to try an 8 (it’s a long time since I’ve made a size 8 pattern!!) My only other comment would be the length, I’m not sure how tall a woman it is designed for but 41″ is pretty long, I’m 5’4″ and I ended up taking about 15cm off the length. I don’t have a problem with that except that over 4 main pattern pieces that’s 60cm of fabric, quite a lot when the pattern takes about 4m.

My next Gabriola skirt is going to be in a pretty vintage style floral cotton form a lovely stall on Otley market on Saturdays. Once I know I’ve got the sizing right I’ve a beautiful floaty fabric in my stash, but that will need lining and interlining in places so it will take a little longer.

About craftycreeky

I live in a busy market town in Yorkshire with my husband, kids, dogs and chickens. I love trying new crafts, rediscovering old ones, gardening, walking...anything creative really I started this blog after my New Year resolution worked so well. My resolution (the first one I've ever kept!) was to post a photograph of my garden on Facebook every day. My hope was that I would then see what was good in the garden and not just weeds and work, which was my tendency. The unexpected side-effect was that I have enjoyed many more hours in the garden. I am hoping that 'The Crafty Creek' will have the same effect. Happy creating!
